That patch underneath

Is bog covering up some rust pin holes

I cleaned the otherside quickly but it appears ok

I shoved my small el cheapy inspection camera inside and there are some slight rust blemish marks, more stains than anything so I'm quite happy with that.
Te rust holes won't be hard to fix, won't take me to long to weld it all up etc.
As for the paint, it holds up if you walk past it beside the road, up close, but up close, it's certainly not professional.
The little stone chip holes out near the black tells me the tank was given a quick rub and painted over the top
Is also a sign of bog pinholes, but the micronometer tells me otherwise.

The edges of the tank and that tred spot are the next tell tale
The check pattern has been painted on, not too bad of a job

It's all in the details when it comes to fine line taping

The green... That's tooling gelcoat...

Old mate does a bit of racing in an outfit apparently, and races his rd, he's made a carbon fibre tank, lower fairing etc etc, he doesn't really know what he is doing, so I gave some pointers, hopefully... He seems keen anyhow. I certainly am concerned about him mucking around with tanks, it's not something you should be toying with when your starting out down the composite route.
The front guard I got off him isn't too bad, needs ripping back and cleaning up the substrate and a repaint. I'll do the same to the tank, part from the underside of the tank, the rest of the tank seems quite good, minimal bog etc.

Little bit of repair work to the guard will be needed given the bog underneath

Overall I'm happy with it, it's quite a good base to work from, straightforward compared to some of the stuff I've had to work with over the years that's for sure!
