Yamaha DS6
I have 2 Yamaha DS6's in the throws of a restore. Unfortunately both have very tired cranks so I am looking for a spare crank or a motor thats in reasonable condition or even another bike if the price is right.

Hi.
There have been crankshaft parts for a DS6 on EBay from a bloke in Fance recently. In my case he was a bit hard to deal with, wanted extra shipping costs after sale at agreed shipping costs to Australia. I think tere are some there now
I have two running DS6's and some spare crank parts.
Let me know what you want and I will see what I can do.
In my experience, it is only the splines on the two inner halves of the crank that can can come loose and cause terminal damage.
The bearings can be bought at any bearing shop (Specify the free running type).
Labarynth seals and ordinary seals come up on Ebay occasionally.
Same for Con Rods and gudgeon pins, there are always some there, but a bit "exy". There are some little end bearings there now also.
I rebuld my own cranks. It's not too hard, but not a pretty thing to watch when trueing them up.
It's good to find an other DS6 owner, let me know if I can offer help or parts.

I managed to pick up another bottom end last weekend but it is pretty sad as well. As you said ,most of the parts come up on ebay but I have yet to see any big end pins. I now have new pistons and rings and the labyrinth seal , cover seals and big end bearings are fairly easy to find. I managed to get a free ds6 seat cover from the Vintage avenue shop in Thailand by sending my old cover over for them to copy. Unfortunately the seat I was going to use from my other bike is not a ds6 seat. After I removed it I noticed it has been modded to fit. The other seat I have is completely rusted out so I will be on the lookout now for a good seat base.

The Blue one looks prettty good. Good luck with the green one . I have not seen this colour in Aust, only in photos of "Street Scrambler" model in US.
As for the seat base, mine was rusted as they all are. I patched it up, just welded strips everywhere until it was strong enough. No one sees it when on the bike.
By the way, I made my own tank badges, they cost less than $10.00 each. They are about 90% accurate, only miss the depth in the "Yamaha" engraving. They are accurate in size and colour and look original until you get up real close.
I can let you know how to make them. Limited tooling needed and I can provide either the decals or let you know where to buy them. Got a sheet of 20 decals made for the same price as 2. Beats paying $150.00 or more for OEM or replica ones.

Just had a thought.
I bought a full box of chain for the DS6 some time back (50 feet)
Let me know if you want some. The chain is alright but I am not in love with the connectors. One broke as I fitted it.
They have a 5/8 X 5/16 chain. (Metric equivalent 16mm X 8 mm)
While you can use a 5/8 X 3/8 chain, it is most probly better to use the right one.

Hey guys. I have a ds6 project bike I have been tinkering with off and on. A lowish mileage bike in very decent shape. I am currently trying to get the trans and kick start back together but cold new york weather and lack of know how has been a bit hindering. How are your bikes coming Tezza?
